Hanover World

Is it me? In the latest issue, in the article on Homeowners' insurance it says "....it was decided that Hanover would not take commission from an insurer......Instead, an excess for each claim made would be imposed...." How does that work? The insurers do not pay commission to Hanover for the business they bring to the insurers, but they instead make a charge on the policyholders, should they claim?? Either I have completely misunderstood what is being said or the wording is inadequate and gives a different interpretation to that intended.

As a tenant I am not affected but in the interests of clarity can someone please explain how taking money from claimants is a replacement for paying money (in commission) to Hanover?

Hi Ruth,
Yes, I understand the delema, In large Housng Associations, one has to try to make sure that those at the top are able to keep in touch with the residents at the bottom...so-to-speak. I can make my observations and comparisons from being a Tenant-member of a management board of a local Housing Association for 3 years prior to it joining with a National Assocation for a further 4 years before I left. Whilst as a small Association covering the East Riding of Yorkshire and parts of Nothern Lincolnshire (Humberside), we had an excellent tenant involvement programme. After joining the larger Housing Association however, that deteriated and never really recovered for quite a number of years, until the recent changes in the rules, as I understand. So, no doubt you can see my concerns about large Housing Associations.

Cheers

John

Does anyone remember the old News magazine that we used to get am I right in thinking that it had the title of Residents News but now I see it is called Hanover News what happened to our Residents News magazine has it changed its title and format or has it, like all the shops in the town, disappeared altogether?!!!

Hi Daf, when the different parts of Hanover group were harmonised so that tenants and homeowners are managed together. A new magazine (Hanover News) was created to replace Residents News. Previously the different parts of the group had their own magazine and some parts didn't have one at all.

I realise it is difficult being a large organisation to incorporate all news involving individual estates I sent a photograph in about one of our residents opening a local Farmers Market but this was not included so therefore most of the residents feel they are not heard especially down here in the South West. Maybe if you want residents to be involved you should listen to their views so I will look forward to finding out the outcome from your consultations.

Well done, Daf - I think it would be a really good idea to have a regional section which is edited locally, thus we could have the South West, South East, Anglia, Greater London, East and West Midlands, North East and North West. By adding just two pages (four sides) half a page could be given over to each region. It would be up to each region to edit the content for their section and prioritise the items received for publication - whether photographs or short articles/events etc.
I would love to read about what goes on in areas other than my own and I am sure I am not alone. We would be able to share ideas and experiences much more easily and be inspired by innovations at other sites.
Or would that give us too much of a voice? Cynical old me.....

Hi Ruth,
I love that word 'harmonised'....makes it sound like a pop group.....'the Hanover upper echlon quartet'.

Bring back the old magazine.....much more interesting !!

Cheers

Hi Margaret, I have contacted the member of staff who wrote the article, who has clarified the situation as follows.

"Yes I agree that this line does not read accurately. Thank you for pointing this out and giving me an opportunity to clarify.
There were two ways of ensuring value for money; firstly Hanovers refusal to take a commision and secondly that an excess was applied to each claim. The two items are exclusive from each other and could have been used independantly."

I hope this helps, the orginator said that their article was heavily edited and lost some meaning in the process.
Best wishes Ruth
