Or will it be business as usual? He will probably only last until the next election and then be kicked off his woolsack with a big fat handshake and pension to match. I am amazed there wer not more people throwing their hats into the ring.....looks like money for old rope to me. What real difference can he make anyway? The pay and allowances issue no longer comes under his jurisdiction as it is being independently scrutinised. All he can do is say "shush!" when they're making too much noise. A lot of fuss over nothing, but it makes you wonder why we were being distracted.....what was really going on?

"Has the newly appointed Speaker solved anything?"

No! He's one of those MP's who 'flipped' his home to the tune of over £100,000...he should have been sacked not 'promoted'! What a farce!

In fact all those MP's that have paid back money should be sacked, as it amounts to guilt on their part. Let's have a clean sweep!

The big problem is, it's the MP's that make the rules and changes, so are they really going to sack themselves, or make their job more accountable at their expense?

Not bloomin' likely!
If you watched QT on Thurs evening a member of the audience said that if the government sincerely wants to regain the trust of the people of this country the guilty will be taken to court and if necessary sent to prison.....then we'll know they mean it! Needless to say, that will never happen so we can draw our own conclusions.

My daughter is a theatre graduate and keeps telling me "It's all performance, mum, stop taking it so seriously" and sadly I'm beinning to think she's right. It really is becoming a farce, what has happened to the committed idealistic politician? Time was when party politics had some weight and you could see some daylight between the protagonists - it's all woolly now and I can't even tell the difference between their voices let alone their policies.....but that might be my hearing.

Have a good weekend, Marg

Hi Margaret,
You may not have seen Daily Politics today, but a woman MP, not unknown for speaking her her mind, refused to avert her eyes and stand aside when passing him coming the other way in a corridor in the Commons. Apparently a traditional custom to show respect. She was apparently loudly 'verballed' by him. Her reply was that if he wanted to dress down as the Speaker, against tradition, she proposes to do the same!
