QUOTE - Myleene Klass was said to be "aghast" and "bemused" after being warned by police for waving a knife at youths who entered her garden - END OF QUOTE
I don't care who it is but everyone should have the right to protect themselves. This story continued that she was in her kitchen and she banged on the window with the knife she was using to let the boys know she had seen them and they left. I don't want guns but I don't want people to feel guilty if they protect their property or try to help a young person in difficulty. This is an old subject but no one in authority seems to listen. --- Hank

Hank,
This is unfortunatley what we are faced with. Criminals are treated with kid gloves. Look at the yobs threatening people in their homes and you find that even though the police know who they are, and have CCTV footage, no action is taken at all.
You will have to butter your bread out of sight of the windows.I am not even going to mention the health and safety risk regarding your spurs, and that manly chest must be causing increased blood pressure in a number of ladies.
Justice and common sense has been turned up side down. Will it change if there is a change in Government, I doubt it. They seem to be all the same. However if you cast your vote for Screaming Lord Sutch and the Raving Monster Looney Party .........???? His comment that"if at first you do not succeed then skydiving is not for you" is probably the only honest thing any political party has ever said.
Roy.

Roy this is frightening but the Lord Sutch brigade are looking more like world leaders every election. If Blair and Bush can get away with war crimes what hope is there - I'm not joking this time. --- Hank

PS I used to work with the police and the comments I heard left me with the impression they had restrictions not to upset certain sections of the community.

Well guys, I don't know what you expect. If you espouse the workings of the market (or the law of the jungle) then the fittest will survive and the weak will go under. Now, in the world we have created the 'fittest' are the wealthiest and by that token 'the weak' will be the poorer members of society. The fit will always be able to get preferential treatment in any group because of who they are - so some sections of society 'must not be upset' by the forces of law and order (whether they are law abiding or not). Why does this surprise you?

Are we helpless in the face of this? Only if we accept that the fittest in our society are the wealthy. If we change our values and put more store by goodness and kindness than we do by material success we will raise to celebrity status the youth club leader, the CAB advisor, the volunteer workers in the emergency services. Imagine - an issue of OK or Hello filled with good people who aspire to help others! Imagine a society which rewards the selfless with fame and privilege.......yes, I know, it's an oxymoron. So it will never change, except by degree, because goodness does not create jobs. We are only here to work - we do not know how to enjoy the paradise we live in, we need occupation. Anything that does not create work is pointless. What do you think climate change is all about?

Margaret you are turning this into a 100% political issue. Of course there are political overtones and I agree if you are wealthy you have an advantage.
I'm sure Roy's comments about the Lord Sutch brigade were tongue in cheek as were mine. But my comments about Mr Blair and Mr Bush were serious.
The real issue was that someone saw intruders and she banged on the window with a knife and she was made to feel guilty
It doesn't matter if the person is rich or poor or what party she supports or in fact what colour she is. I think the attitude of society is wrong to even entertain the notion she was doing anything other than letting the intruders know they had been seen --- Hank

Hank,
What is the world coming too when something like this is blown out of all proportion. I suppose the scouts and girl guides will have to peel potatoes with plastic knives in case they get accused of threatening behaviour if they had a metal one !!

Cheers

Hank tonight on the tele we have people being told that if they clear snow from their driveways or pavments in front of their homes they face legal action if somebody falls down. Then we have the Council telling folk it is ok to do so. Then we have Injury Lawyers saying you would be liable. Then we have the same injury lawyers telling us that if you fall on icy roads etc you have little chance of an action against the Council because common sense should tell you that going out in such conditions is putting your health at risk.
We have people having to be checked out if they want to take photographs of their children at school functions, or if they take children to school. But the local Social Club is allowing a crech to operate in the pub area because the creche has had its rental increased at the place where they used to operate. To get to the gents toilet you have to walk through these toddlers. Who knows what funnies are members of the Social club, or who might join in the future because the kids are in the pub.
Common sense seems to have gone out of the window.

Oh sorry, Hank - I was actually responding to your P.S. and I should have said so to make it clear.

As far as Mylene Klass is concerned and her right to bang on the window with a knife (or anything else) - I completely support her and doubt very much that she was cautioned for threatening behaviour by the police, or that she runs the risk of prosecution.....other than in the mind of Daily Wail readers or whichever hysterical media rag the nonsense was printed in.

I will always make a political comment, given half a chance, because I am so interested in politics and the way our lives are controlled. But it's just a harmless hobby, guys.......I'm not running for office!

Hi Margaret,
It's good that you are politically orientated, I think you would make a great MP, you would certainly shake up a few of the old bones in the Government.

Cheers

Margaret I had an email from Oz regarding this subject. An intruder broke into a house of an elderly couple
to rob them. He attacked the wife and started hitting her. The husband grabbed a gun and fired at the husband. I don't think he killed him but he was arrested and charged with attempted murder. I gather there was such an outcry that the charges were dropped. Roy has mentioned the pitfalls in the letter above yours.
Mylene Klass was probably warned but even so it is wrong. I looked at the original comment and yes she was warned nothing more.
A while ago I made a comment about a child falling off a cycle and cutting his knee and I held back from helping because of possible accusations.
I was playing tennis one day and a girl of about 14 walked across the court in the middle of a rally to talk to another girl on the next court. I was sharp with the girl because it was very dangerous and I received a mouthful of Fs. No one speaks to me like that especially a child. I took hold of her arm and marched her off the court. A man and her mother appeared and the only thing they could say was if her teacher can accept it why can't you. I was later told that I was in the wrong for removing her from the court --- Hank

It's only a matter of time until it will be illegal not to let housebreakers and burglars into your home....in fact it will probably be compulsory to put down a welcome mat and leave tea and biscuits for them! Father Christmas, eat your heart out!

David many a true word ----- Hank
PS A slight mistake in my last story from Oz. The husband fired the gun at the intruder.
