Hanover World

Hi there all

need some advice

our resident warden is useless and all residents wish to get rid of her.

Can anyone tell us what to do....what road to take .

one idea......can anyone agree with this.....

she was first warden here and i am sure the accomodation came with the job. if she goes...the accomodation goes.
so if hanover transfers her to another estate.......and she goes....problem solved and if she refuses to go...she can be given the sack..........if this correct......can anyone out there suggest something.

thanks

chi

Chi, It all depends on her contract of employment. If her hours are laid down as 9 to 5 with free acommodation and a closed door policy after 5, then there is nothing you can do if you expect 24 hour service from this Warden/EM. Would I be right in saying that the fact that this person lives rent free on site is what is making you cross? Perhaps you feel that the living on site should also mean 24/7 responsibility to residents?
Marg and Hank give good advice.
Here we have a very unhappy resident. and her concerns need to be adressed urgently in the interest of good relations between herself and her warden/em and Hanover and its customers. Surely the purpose of this very Hanover World is for residents to discuss their problems, whatever they might be, and expect some meaningful response from those to whom we pay our rents.Sadly, as Chi points out, this is not happening.
Sorry Chi I've changed your sex in my comment. I guess the reason being your comments came over as a dogmatic male. I thought women were more rational in their thinking on subjects like this. Before I came to Hanover I was with another company and their manager had her own flat but she once told me her wage was low because it included accommodation. I wonder if Hanover works like that. - Hank
Hi all, this has been a discusion I've been loathe to comment on, as I think it needs a response from a senior manager and Chi has stated that is not what she wants, she just wants to know whether you agree with her or not. I did watch the Panorama on residents wardens and have read subsequent responses from ERoSH (the national consortium for sheltered and retirement housing) on their website as they feel they were misrepresented (click here to read). I have forwarded a link to this discussion to our Chief Executive and Retirement Housing director some weeks ago, so they can see what you are discussing.

So we are all clear, the main purpose of Hanoverworld is for residents to interact with each other rather than with Hanover. I try to keep an eye on discussions and will occasionally point residents in the right direction to get information they want from Hanover, and will contact other staff for a response to enquiries when members request one. However as membership grows it will be impossible for me to follow all discussions, so I am only likely to post a Hanover response, if a member mails me and asks me to, or I come across a discussion by chance. If you want to guarentee a direct response from Hanover, it is better to post questions on the 'contact us' page of Hanover's website. I'm sure you don't want Hanoverworld to become just another way of Hanover delivering a corporate message, it is your social network for you to share stories, photo's, videos, chat and discuss items of interest with other residents.
Ruth I do agree with you and a balance can be found so that there is light hearted comments as well as serious topics. Interaction regarding living within Hanover is bound to happen and it helps us learn how other centres work.
This topic as I have said has become a Soap and I do think that you should have the power to close a subject when it has run its course. This happens on other sites and it doesn't have to look like Big Brother. You are in a difficult position I understand that but I feel Chi has had her say and she has had some good advice so she can't complain. --- Hank
Thanks Hank, I do agree with you, yes members should really be able to discuss what they want, both serious and not so serious. Do other members think this discussion has run its course, I can close it?
YES --- Hank
Hi Ruth - it has been running a long time and it seems all that can be said has been said, so perhaps it is time to close it.

Chi has been given an alternative course of action if she still feels strongly and wants to continue the discussion officially.

I'm not against anyone blowing off steam, though - I would not want our HW to become too warm and fluffy.

Marg
Yes. I think it has run its course - however, like Marg it would be a shame if HW became too warm and fluffy.
