Just upgraded to windows 7 it took about four hours to download. Had lots of trouble getting it to fit on to screen had to adjust fonts and screen resolution. Had trouble with Epson printer and scanner had to go on to Epson site to install new drivers. Now seem to have it working okay. Has anyone else had any problems?

Hi Geoff & Jenny,
I think I'll wait a while before venturing down this course of action until I've heard other peoples experiences, a bit like the fun we had when XP first came out. I hope it's as good as it sounds though.

Cheers

John

I think you are wise John. I did post a comment on Silver Surfers from Microsoft and their advice was - If you have XP don't as you will probably have problems. Vista is more acceptable. I will stay with XP as I'm happy with it and maybe in the future I will change the whole set up. --- Hank.

I have just brought a new desktop pc with Windows 7 installed and as I came strainght from XP nothing I had installed worked, ie: printer, keyboard, webcam. Techy guys said you might as welll throw them away as they wont work.

Seems if you had Vista before you wouldnt have any trouble.

I am surprised about this, that means more expense added to the purchase of Windows 7 software......doesn't seem such good value for money now, does it?

Cheers

Hi I am surprised that the advice you have been given is so negative. I'm not suggesting I have any answers but I have the Which ? computer magazine and they have not given that advice to anyone. They have an excellent HELP section and I would have thought that subject would have come up. I don't know if you have read the comments on the Silver Surfers group. The change has been discussed - that was with Vista and I gather that wasn't all that easy. Perhaps someone on there could advise you. Have you contacted your printer company for their advice. That goes for the web-cam as well. Good luck --- Hank.

Hi Maureen when I upgraded to windows 7 I had a lot of trouble getting my printer and scanner to work. I went on to the website of my printer and scanner and found I could download new drivers which I did and I have managed to get them to work. Hope this is some help to you. I upgraded my pc it still keeps crashing and every time you log off it downloads a new update I have had at least a hundred updates since I started using windows 7 I wish I had never installed it. good luck Geoff

Hi Maureen If you have downloaded an old xp programme into windows 7 right click on your mouse and it will bring up if it is compatible and if you click on the box it will take you to their website and you should be able to upgrade the programme this is what Ihave had to do with all mine. Best of luck Geoff

Having read windows 7 step by step I found some useful information. This is an extract from the book with regard windows 7 upgrade from xp. If your existing computer runs windows vista, it should be able to run windows 7 and you should notice an increase in computer speed. If your existing computer runs windows xp, it might be able to run windows 7, but likely won't support aero If you have a questions concerning whether your existing computer will support windows 7, you can install windows 7 advisor from www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/get/upgrade-advisor.aspx The upgrade advisor generates a list of any known compatibility issues between windows 7 and your computer, including any peripheral devices connected to it. This is from a microsoft manuel. Don,t fall in the same trap as I have Geoff

Hi,I'm running Win 7 x64 on a new board with a Dual Core AMD CPU AND 4 gig DDR 2 RAM. The problem with all new Windows O/S despite what Microsoft claim is that they are are memory hungry,4gig of DDR 2 RAM is the minimum recommended in addition a faster graphics card, with more memory is needed. If you are thinking of changing your O/S to Win 7 then use the upgrade advisor to check your existing setup. It is not true, as was said in a previous post that your existing peripherals will not work with Win7,but you may need to download new drivers for them, its also worth remembering that many of the software providers have yet to properly upgrade their products to Win 7,many have just adapted existing programs in the interim so its worth checking for updates regularly.

Yes Eric this may be the case now but back in November it certainly wasnt.Windows have been upgrading the system with downloads everyday so it is obvious that they have been able to get over many of the problems. They have had in the early days of windows 7.I was not the only one who had these problems.

Hi,its interesting that you mention problems with your Epson Printer,my R800 Photo Printer has caused a few problems, despite installing new drivers the print preview dialog is unstable, have yet to resolve this issue. I migrated from XP SP3 and have found that Win 7 is faster and more stable than XP,although there is less software available for the x64 version,if you are running the x86 32bit version the position is better.
