Margaret Goodwin New EM - the fifth apointment since my arrival 2 years ago.

We have just had the 5th appointment to the post of EM since my arrival here 2 years ago. I'm not sure what it is about us that puts them off. It is unsettling for residents to have so many changes, and I know it cannot be helped in some cases, but there is no continuity which makes for an unstable atmosphere. The new appointee is not really new as she is the permanent EM from last year who has now come back......all the others were temps......but I can see the residents are taking everything wi… Continue

John E Pallister 'Fund degrees' with business tax'

Having just read this story I can see some merit in it's arguement, but I would put one point in, and that is, only the industries that are going to benefit directly should be required to contribute to the costs.

Cheers

John

Cowboy Titles can be bought

Conservative donor and deputy party chairman Lord Ashcroft has admitted he is "non-domiciled" in the UK for tax.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Whatever the party I think this is wrong. If you don't pay our income tax then why should you get a peerage just because you pump money into a political party.

This means that person [whatever party] has a right to sit in the House

Geoff Pearse Death Taxes

No doubt everybody has heard of the plans to pay for the costs of care by paying a tax after death on the deceased's estate. A figure of £20,000 has been proposed. I'm sure that none of us in our later years would argue that proper care should be available to all when needed and the present system is most unfair on those who have to sell their homes to pay for their care. But where would a solution such as the one now being proposed stop? The councils are now jumping on the bandwagon and suggest… Continue

Cowboy The real me

I'm a mixture of good and bad - I admit it. The good part is genuine - although at times intolerant. If I say something on this site, there are not too many hidden meanings, I like people especially those who have a broad intelligent outlook. They don't have to appear super intelligent - I go by results.

My views on religion are poor to say the least as are my views on the extreme left and right wings of politics.

I still respect those people for their views as I do for anyone r

Margaret Goodwin Free at Last!......or so I thought.

They took my cast off yesterday.......but I was horrified to find that I still could not walk!! Well, I can hobble about but it is quite painful and I have a few weeks of physio before I can use my leg normally again.

What a Swizz!! All my plans of escape gone up in smoke......I can't even drive yet! Woe is me!! I shouldn't moan, at least I can shower - bliss - and move about comparatively unencumbered but my dreamt of freedom eludes me, as yet. It seems I need to lear

Geoff Pearse Grumpy?

If you are, according to the DT's science reporter on Saturday, you could be classed as 'being higher up the evolutionary ladder than people who are easy going'. He mentions a quote from GBS "all progress depends on the unreasonable man". While I feel a lot better about his reassurance, I am not sure I like the news that the findings come from comparison with two types of monkeys!… Continue

brian winchcombe Royal Mails 'Pricing in Proportion'

I have been to the post office to collect a undelivered card, because of its size, there was a postage unpaid deficient postage, plus handling fee of £1. The category was not Letter Format but Large Letter Format. To avoid receiving a card after the event, to avoid the unpaid postage cost and the cost/inconvience of having to go a post office to collect the item, buy your cards in the Letter Format, or if you decide to send a Large Letter Format, go to the post office and not use the letter box.… Continue
