Hanover World

Hi All
I haven't been chatting for a while. I am now going to the Wildlife Trust every Tuesday for an accompanied walk. We walk round the woods at Lings, chatting about all the flora and fauna that we come across. It is good exercise and very informative, and I have met quite a few new people. We go back to the centre after the walk and have a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits. I have also joined them on litter picking events, on Saturday and again this morning. It is absolutely astonishing how much litter we collected (two black bags full each today) and the sheer variety of things we found (burnt out motor cycle, mattress, three pairs of blue jeans, carpets, building materials, hundreds of bottles and cans, and the usual plastic bags, crisp bags and sweet wrappers, supermarket trolleys, old garden furniture, a bicycle, car tyres, etc.) It is such a shame to see a beautiful natural area spoiled by so much rubbish!

Hi Hank Our area is particularly bad, even the paths between the houses are badly littered. People just don't seem to have any pride in their area. It doesn't take much to pocket your crisp bags and sweet wrappers and bin them when you get home. I think people have become very lazy and couldn't care less. I asked some people if they would enjoy me littering their front garden when they dropped stuff on my front lawn. They were not amused and ignored me completely. I don't know whether it made them think twice in the future, probably not.
